{"id":15906,"date":"2020-12-11T12:24:09","date_gmt":"2020-12-11T12:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsb.org\/?p=15906"},"modified":"2020-12-16T09:58:08","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T09:58:08","slug":"rsb-officially-recognised-by-icao-for-corsia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsb.org\/2020\/12\/11\/rsb-officially-recognised-by-icao-for-corsia\/","title":{"rendered":"RSB officially recognised by ICAO for CORSIA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>RSB has\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.icao.int\/environmental-protection\/CORSIA\/Pages\/CORSIA-Eligible-Fuels.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">officially been recognised<\/a> by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) for the certification of CORSIA-eligible Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) with its new\u00a0<strong>RSB CORSIA Standard<\/strong>.<br><br>SAF producers and airlines are now able demonstrate compliance with Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) requirements\u00a0<strong>and<\/strong>\u00a0RSB\u2019s best-in-class sustainability, widely recognised by NGOs and other groups as the most robust, credible and practical approach for sustainability in the bio-based and circular economy.<br><br>SAF \u2014 which can deliver significant reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while requiring no changes to existing aircraft and infrastructure \u2014 offer the most effective and immediate solution to an industry looking to decarbonise rapidly. The RSB CORSIA Standard goes above and beyond CORSIA requirements to ensure that SAF achieves at least 50% GHG reductions on its core lifecycle analysis, and a minimum 10% when including CORSIA\u2019s Induced Land Use Change values (ILUC). In addition, RSB-certified SAF enables further claims around zero deforestation, environmental protection, food security and human rights, as indicated in our comprehensive RSB\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/rsb.org\/about\/what-we-do\/the-rsb-principles\/?mc_cid=fbf5d008ba&amp;mc_eid=[UNIQID]\" target=\"_blank\">Principles &amp; Criteria<\/a>\u00a0which define best practice for sustainability along the supply chain.<br><br><strong>A Trusted Partner in Aviation<\/strong><br>This recognition cements RSB as a long-term\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rsb.org\/aviation\" target=\"_blank\">trusted partner for the aviation industry<\/a>. RSB is supported by aviation industry leaders who participate in our multi-stakeholder roundtable, developing robust sustainability approaches for the industry and collaborating with pioneers from industry, NGOs and government. These members include\u00a0<strong>Airbus, Boeing, Air France, British Airways, KLM, the International Air Transport Association (IATA)<\/strong>\u00a0and many\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/rsb.org\/community-membership\/community-hub\/#community-members\" target=\"_blank\">others<\/a>.<br><br>This industry commitment is supported\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/rsb.org\/the-rsb-standard\/recognition\/?mc_cid=fbf5d008ba&amp;mc_eid=[UNIQID]\" target=\"_blank\">by global recognition<\/a>\u00a0of RSB\u2019s most robust approach to sustainability and its multi-stakeholder community.<br><br>The\u00a0<strong>International Coalition for Sustainable Aviation\u2019s (ICSA)<\/strong>\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.icao.int\/Meetings\/A40\/Documents\/WP\/wp_561_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">vision<\/a>\u00a0for a \u201czero climate impact\u201d international aviation pathway towards 2050 endorses RSB as the \u201cbest-in-class sustainability certification standard for advanced aviation fuels\u201d. In its\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/rsb.org\/2020\/10\/23\/atag-identifies-rsb-membership-as-key-tool-for-airlines-decarbonising\/\" target=\"_blank\">Waypoint 2050<\/a>\u00a0report on balancing aviation growth with tackling the climate emergency the\u00a0<strong>Air Transport Action Group (ATAG)<\/strong>\u00a0identify joining RSB as one of the simplest early actions that can be taken to help accelerate an energy transition. The airline members of the\u00a0<strong>Sustainable Air Fuel User Group (SAFUG)<\/strong>, representing a third of global commercial aviation, have committed to developing and using alternative aviation fuels that are consistent with RSB\u2019s robust sustainability requirements.<br><br><strong>Ready for Certification<\/strong><br>RSB certificate holders already include SAF producers and traders like\u00a0<strong>Gevo, Nuseed, SkyNRG, World Energy<\/strong>\u00a0and others, who are well positioned to transition to an RSB CORSIA certificate. Also committed to RSB certification are\u00a0<strong>Velocys, LanzaTech<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Lanzajet<\/strong>. Additionally, international airlines,\u00a0including\u00a0<strong>KLM<\/strong>, are committed to sourcing RSB-certified SAF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>We congratulate RSB for achieving a significant milestone: ICAO recognition of RSB\u2019s world-leading Standard for use in meeting the sustainability requirements of CORSIA.
